Choose Operating By Exception Over Brute Force Operating

With the explosion of the oil and gas industry over the past decade, a “new normal” is quickly becoming evident.

The “experienced” operators have moved up, retired and become scarce. With their scarcity, the days of “making every well, every day” is becoming difficult if not, at times, completely impossible.

Qualified personnel with the ability to fix and even increase well production now come at a premium. When you find those qualified people, the best option for production companies would likely be to leverage that talent to its fullest extent.

The big question is: Do I want that person driving to spots to verify everything is OK, or do I want that person headed to problem areas where they can be of the most benefit?

Shortcomings Of Brute Force Operating

Brute force operating involves a person going to visit each well, each day. The operator will make most of his wells every day, but there are limitations. It simply is hard to find enough qualified people to operate your number of wells because of the overall explosion of the number of wells. Add that to the fact that many people just aren’t dependable at making their wells every day and this operating style quickly falls apart.

Operating By Exception Is The Better Option

Operating by exception means using operators to focus on problematic wells. Because really good operators are rare, send them to wells that need particular attention while relying on automated data on the other wells. By doing so, your operator can genuinely fix the problem, not just put a Band-Aid on it.

No matter how good they are, operators don’t have the time to fix every well in a day. By monitoring wells remotely, you save time and money while putting your resources to better use. Contact Champion Automation to discuss implementation of your automation system.
